AFFIRM Physical Components
Overview
AFFIRM is typically offered as a hosted solution, with the AFFIRM servers residing in iPipeline data centers, but AFFIRM can also be installed onsite at a Distributor location. AFFIRM is an n-tier application, meaning that the entire system can be run from a single server, or distributed across many servers to meet security, capacity, availability, and scalability requirements. A typical infrastructure implementation includes a protected sub-network, protected by a firewall, which houses the database and FMS server. A DMZ sub-network is also typically implemented to house Web servers, which may be load balanced for failover and load management. End users typically connect to AFFIRM Web application via a Web browser (Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher is required) over the Internet using Secure-Socket Layer (SSL) HTTPS. Telecommunication links with the Distributor back office or third parties, including the DTCC, may also be implemented for Licensing and Appointment checks, seed data transmission, and the transmission of other messages, such as status messages and electronic annuity orders.
